Coffee topiary how to properly glue the grains. Topiary from coffee beans "Dewdrops": a master class with photos and videos. Feng Shui Importance of the Coffee Tree

If you like to surprise and delight your friends with non-standard gifts, you will definitely like this type of craft as a coffee topiary. After all, all that is required to create it is simple fixtures and materials, accuracy and patience. Well, a drop of inspiration, of course!

What is a topiary, or how far does a coffee bean tree go?

Topiary is a man-made ornamental tree. Now it is made from various natural materials and improvised means. This art originated in ancient Rome. The first topiaries were skillfully pruned trees in the gardens of the Roman patricians. Gardeners gave bizarre shapes to the crowns of plants, thereby creating a semblance of statues and other decorative items.

Topiary went through many changes in its development: modest and painstaking work of nuns in medieval monasteries, decorative Renaissance trees created on a grand scale, gardens and labyrinths of Holland and England of the 17th century, etc.

Today, the topiary is an incredibly popular souvenir. The tree of coffee beans, in addition to visual pleasure, brings olfactory pleasure. After all, even after processing, the grains continue to smell, filling the room with a wonderful aroma and creating a cozy atmosphere.

Materials and tools

The main material in the manufacture of coffee trees is, of course, coffee beans. You will also need:

  • ball or heart for the base;
  • paints, glue, paper, tapes;
  • container in which the tree will "grow";
  • wire;
  • gypsum, putty or other container fillers, etc.

The exact list is compiled when choosing a product option and will be presented by us below, in a step-by-step instruction.

By becoming familiar with existing techniques, you can create your own recipe using the items you have on hand.

Even in hand-made, there are non-traditional solutions: Christmas coffee topiary, "growing" from a cut of a branch, and not in a pot, as usual

Gift with meaning

Before you do a coffee tree, think about what meaning you want to invest in this gift. Topiaries are a symbol of prosperity and unquenchable vitality (like a tree, in principle), happiness and well-being. By adding some elements, you can correct the message enclosed in the craft.

Idea! So, if the topiary is intended for newlyweds, there can be two crowns (or small baby trees will be located next to two large ones).

It is customary to give gifts in the shape of a heart to a loved one. When creating a souvenir for a woman, you can add a lot of small jewelry, ribbons and lace. The topiary addressed to a man should presumably have a strong base, as if emphasizing the reliability of the stronger sex. Based on your knowledge of a person, you can create a unique, special gift.

What kind of interior is "friends" with topiaries?

The coffee tree will fit well into rooms decorated in almost any style. It can be either artsy classic apartments, or a more austere loft or even high-tech.

A "delicious" combination of coffee and creamy mint colors is a nice addition to an interior where there is a mint color.

Step-by-step instruction

At the moment, there are many variations on how to make a coffee tree with your own hands. In the instructions we offer, we will combine two technologies - the creation of a heart tree and a tree with a round crown, indicating possible options for further actions at the crossroads.

Coffee tree step by step:

Step 1. Collection of materials.

In those cases where you need to choose, the names of objects will be given through a fraction. So, you will need:

Advice! Buy good coffee if possible. Evenly roasted, well-sized, shiny grains will look much better than sloppy dried and disproportionate ones.

Usually, coffee beans are glued flat on the topiary, but you can also place each grain in a “scale”

  • Base blank. It can be a ball or a heart: ready-made (ball / toy) or created independently from foam and paper / cardboard and cotton pads. Threads are used, as is customary for any variant of creating a workpiece. You will also need brown paint, which covers the base.
  • The material that will later become the tree trunk: it can be a plastic pipe / wooden stick / thick wire.
  • Glue and preferably a glue gun.
  • Scissors.
  • Alabaster / gypsum and a container for mixing the solution;
  • Tree container: Store-bought planter/pot/vase/bowl or homemade pot.
  • Double sided secure tape.
  • Decorations: beads, beads, ribbons, bows, lace, star anise stars, carnations, cinnamon sticks, etc.

step two. Work with the workpiece.

If your topiary will be round, you can use a ready-made small ball (ball) or make a foam ball (this case is preferable when wire is used as a trunk).

You can also take a ready-made heart if you can find it, or cut it out of foam. The foam blank is pasted over with paper, wrapped with knitting threads of dark shades and painted over with brown paint.

Idea! There is another option for creating a heart: two identical shapes are cut out of cardboard. A wire or other material for the column is laid between them. The sheets are glued together, and then glued with cotton pads until the desired volume is obtained. Next, the workpiece is wrapped with threads and painted.

After the necessary procedures with the base, it is covered with glue and covered with grains. It is better when it can be done in two layers. The first is laid with the flat side inward, the second - vice versa.

Step Three. Stem shaping.

The rod of our choice is wrapped with twine / tape / tissue paper or other materials and glued to the crown. The wire can be bent. In the case of a paper heart, the connection is made earlier. In blanks of other types, a small hole can be made.

Step Four. Priming.

We measure the required volume of liquid with a container in which the tree will be planted. We prepare a solution of gypsum / alabaster. Pour into a pot or vase, insert a tree in the center and let the mass harden. When the surface is dry, cover it with layers of coffee, or other material (tea, sawdust, shavings, etc. will do).

To decorate the finished coffee topiary, in addition to ribbons, beads, dried flowers and the like, you can also use various miniature figurines for terrariums

I greet you on the pages of my diary!

Coffee creativity has taken root with me only as a use of coffee broth for soap making :) To be honest, well, my hand does not rise to use coffee beans for decorative purposes, or rather, they simply do not have time to apply in this way - my husband and I are inveterate coffee lovers :)

But how beautifully fragrant grains look in the decor! For some reason, I especially like topiary - miniature, well-groomed trees lined with coffee beans and preferably decorated in an eco-style: with burlap, other natural materials, some kind of sisal strings, strings, cinnamon sticks, etc. It seems to me that they give the house incredible comfort and natural harmony, and most often they fit perfectly into the interior with their unobtrusive color scheme.

I want to bring to your attention a selection of ideas and a master class on making cute topiary from coffee beans. I think you should like it :) Enjoy watching!

I found the first master class on the handicraft resource diy-enthusiasts.com. Sorry, no author's name

Cut out a heart of the desired size from paper.

Transfer the image to cardboard and cut it out

We pre-wrap the wire with paper and glue several wires to the heart

Well, now we increase the volume of the heart with the help of cotton pads

We tie the entire structure with threads, trying to give the shape of a heart

Paint with dark paint

Glue coffee beans

We form the trunk by wrapping a wire with a thread

We put a block of floral foam in a pot and install the topiary trunk into it, fixing it with glue

Adding decor

Beautiful coffee bean topiary, right?

In general, the logic of making such topiaries is very simple. It is necessary to figure out what we will plant the tree in - flower pots, stylish cups, cans or packages of yogurt-sour cream, etc., and peat pots, and various curly jars are suitable here - there are a lot of options. Next, we think about the shape of the topiary and what can serve as the basis: if there is no ready-made form, you can always roll-roll-blind :) The papier-mâché technique does an excellent job for such purposes. Do not forget to think right away what will be the trunk - here everything that has or can acquire the necessary hardness will come to the rescue: these are pencils, and hardened wire, and cinnamon sticks, branches, etc. And, of course, we need to somehow fix the tree in the pot: you can just fill it with gypsum, you can, as in the above master class, plant it in floristic foam, you can fill it with mounting foam, cover it with sand-earth, cover it with plasticine or salt dough, a lot depends on the size of the structure and the severity of the "top" :) And, of course, we definitely add cute decor :) The lesson is very pleasant :)

And a little more about warm and homely :)

Home textiles, pillows, blankets and other home bedding are quite expensive now - I mean good quality, not for a couple of weeks :) And if you need to purchase home textiles, I highly recommend trying to find like-minded people for joint purchases - the savings are more than significant, my personal experience shows that the price as a result may differ from the retail price by 2 times, t .e. 50% down (!). Beneficial, right? And there are a lot of offers and options. For example, for Russians, I recommend paying attention to the company Bivic(bivik.ru), which has been manufacturing and selling home textiles for over 15 years, I think this brand is known to many. You can buy not only bed linen from them, but also pillows, mattresses, blankets in bulk, they also have bedspreads, towels and even home clothes in their assortment. Enjoy :)

I wish you all a nice weekend and sunny weather!

Today I want to tell you how you can quickly and with pleasure build a topiary with your own hands for beginners - as always, I will give several master classes and explain in detail how even a beginner in needlework can create a topiary with his own hands. Topiaries are a chic gift, they are also used for decoration and aromatization of rooms, and such an artificial tree can also be a wonderful gift - for example, a money topiary will attract wealth to the house.

Satin ribbons

Let's try to make a topiary from satin ribbons. If you know how to do it, then it will be very easy for you, but even if you first took up ribbon topiary, you will succeed. So, I’ll tell you about the experience of making topiary from satin ribbons with my own hands.

Would need:

  • about six meters of satin ribbon (not already 5 cm, it is better to take several colors);
  • threads, beads, as well as a ribbon for decoration;
  • glue gun or regular superglue;
  • stick or piece of plastic tube for the barrel;
  • pot or bucket;
  • material for the middle - a fabric bag, a crumpled newspaper or a ball of foil;
  • earth, pebbles, rubble (I used colorful glass for the aquarium).
To make this topiary, a master class on making flowers will also come in handy - look at the video on how to make a simple rose from a satin ribbon.

We make 12-15 roses from a satin ribbon. You can use several shades of ribbon (for example, three or four), or you can get by with one shade - when I made a topiary for my younger sister to decorate a wedding photo booth, I used a beautiful ivory satin ribbon.

We make the middle - for example, crumple foil or an old newspaper, wrap it with threads to make a dense shape. You can wrap it with ribbon, but there is no need - satin roses are quite lush.

The trunk can be made from a branch, a plastic pipe, or any suitable stick. In extreme cases, a dense wire, folded in several layers and wrapped with tape, is suitable. Wrap your trunk with tape, and then glue the trunk to the crown of the tree on one side and to the pot or bucket on the other.

We string a couple of beads on a thread and “sew” the beads and a satin rosette to the topiary. Sewing or gluing should be tight. When the whole ball is covered with roses, you need to prepare the trunk and pot.

Pour a weighting agent into the bucket, straighten all the flowers, if necessary, decorate with a decorative ribbon.

From coffee

We will also make a coffee tree with our own hands. To make a topiary from coffee beans you will need:

  • base (plastic ball, foam ball - sold in creative stores);
  • trunk (branch, stick, tube);
  • a pot or something in place of it (I had a beautiful earthen jar last time, but now a regular glass);
  • coffee beans (not worth saving - at good coffee indescribable bright aroma);
  • solution for fixing (I use ordinary putty, gypsum, alabaster, and at least cement are also suitable);
  • brown acrylic paint;
  • glue gun and glue sticks;
  • newspaper or waste paper;
  • burlap or other characteristic fabric;
  • decor in order to decorate the coffee topiary with your own hands.
How to make a coffee tree:

money

By the way, according to the same logic as from coffee, you can make a do-it-yourself topiary from coins. Look at the photo, how beautiful it is to make part of the topiary from coins, and you will get a money tree topiary. You can use ordinary coins by painting them with gold paint, or you can buy special decorative coins (they will shine brightly).

The manufacturing principle is the same as that of a coffee tree - you need to take the base, cover it with paint, first partially paste over with coins (you can do it with a lock - as if coins are shining from an open wallet), and then paste over coffee and fix it in a pot. Unbleached linen and burlap are well suited to such a tree as a decor.

The topiary from banknotes also looks very interesting, but I won’t lie - I have a beautiful topiary from banknotes it didn’t work out yet, I’m still working on a do-it-yourself banknote tree, so if you want to make a money tree from coins or a tree that attracts wealth from banknotes, then watch a master class on how to make a money tree with your own hands.

It also turns out interestingly a tree in the Kusudama style - see how to make topiary with your own hands according to step-by-step instructions.

Video bonus: two master classes, how else can you make a money tree from banknotes in an original way:

From napkins

A chic do-it-yourself napkin topiary is literally made from nothing, you will need:
  • several bright napkins;
  • base ball (plastic or polystyrene);
  • branch or stick;
  • gypsum (any mixture for fixing);
  • titanium glue or any polymer glue;
  • pot or glass;
  • stapler and scissors;
  • different ribbons and lace, decor and paper for the pot (can be replaced with a cloth).

So, how to make a tree with your own hands from ordinary napkins:
  1. First, we make ordinary flowers from napkins and paper clips - we fix the napkin folded several times with a stapler, cut it out in a circle, and crush it in the form of petals.
  2. You will need 15-20 flowers, if you don’t have enough, you will do more, but usually this amount is enough for a lush and beautiful topiary tree of happiness.
  3. We paste over the ball with a napkin, wrap the barrel with a ribbon, dry it;
  4. We paste over the ball with napkin flowers, skillfully weaving the decor into your napkin tree with our own hands - it can be lace, beads, bows and even plastic figures, small wooden letters or words on topiary look very attractive;
  5. We breed gypsum and “plant” our tree - we immerse the finished topiary with a trunk in a pot and fill it with gypsum, hold it until it seizes.
We decorate the pot outside, decorate the plaster.

Now you know how to make a tree of happiness with your own hands and you can decorate such products to your taste.

cones

By the way, you can make a very beautiful topiary from cones, especially since it is quite easy to make. What you need in order to make a topiary from cones:
  • pot or glass;
  • stick, branch, tube - trunk;
  • round base for topiary - you can take a foam ball, you can cut it out of polyurethane foam, in extreme cases, a crumpled and wrapped newspaper will do;
  • bumps (bigger is better);
  • brown acrylic (preferably glossy, dark);
  • fabric for decorating a glass;
  • decor to decorate your cone topiary - beads, threads, buttons and so on;
  • gypsum or any mortar for fixing;
  • glue gun and rods to it;
  • scissors, brushes.
Our craft must be neat, only then it will not be a children's product, but a chic craft decor.

We start making a topiary from cones with the decor of a glass - we cut the fabric diagonally (so it drapes better), and we fit it, gluing it with a gun. By the way, want to avoid ugly glue marks? Glue where it will not be visible (on the bottom and inside the glass, and the walls should simply be covered).

We prepare the base - we fix the stick to the ball, paint everything with acrylic (it is better to paste over with newspaper first).

We glue the ball with cones, let it dry and fix it in a pot - for this we dilute the gypsum, dip the trunk of our tree and hold until the gypsum seizes.

You can decorate a topiary from cones different ways, I prefer beads of natural shades.

You can decorate your pinecone topiary with ribbons, hang artificial berries or even small figurines on the pinecones.

Beads and beads

You can also make a charming bead topiary. How to make a beaded tree is easier to understand by hand, so watch the video below on how to make a beaded topiary. By the way, the master can make absolutely everything from beads - including decor, for example, you can also berries that you can decorate a money tree from beads.

Now you know how to make an artificial tree with your own hands step by step. I admit honestly, each do-it-yourself topiary is something special, and you will understand what it will be like only when you start decorating it. Try to make festive trees and ordinary modest trees for the interior - those that are laid out with cones and coffee beans can not only decorate the room, but also flavor it (you can add a couple of drops essential oil).

And my sister makes money topiary with her own hands, which lure money into the house, I will publish the guide next time - so far I can only show from photographs how such products look like. Try to make your own topiary and surprise your loved ones with unusual gifts!

Ideas for inspiration:

Fragrant coffee topiary will not leave anyone indifferent: this decor will decorate the living room, kitchen, office or public place. This is a great handmade gift that even a beginner can handle. With some dexterity and preliminary preparation the process takes no more than 2-3 hours. We tell everything about coffee bean topiary: what are the features, how to make it with your own hands, what are the interesting options.

Types of coffee topiary

In general, topiary is the art of curly pruning of trees and shrubs, resulting in a topiary - a tree with a round crown, a bush in the shape of an animal or a heart, etc. The first topiary from coffee beans was made in the form of a round tree on a stem-stem. Further, the fantasy stepped further, other variations of geometric shapes appeared, but the name stuck.

  • Volumetric heart;

  • Star;

  • floating cup;

  • Flower;

  • Products on the leg-stand;

  • Suspended;

  • Round balls for decor.

There are many tutorials on the Internet for making DIY coffee bean topiary, and you can be inspired by various implementations, repeat a beautiful product or come up with something of your own.

We talk about how you can make an unusual topiary from coffee beans and decorate it in various ways.

  • Before gluing the grains, do not forget to treat the surface so that the background does not shine through. This can be done with brown gouache, but finely ground coffee is better, it will have an additional aroma, and it looks noble. They can also process the wand-stand itself.
  • As a base, you can choose a cup, a mini coffee pot or a milk jug, a decorative bucket or a flower pot (but you need to seal the hole in the bottom in it). You can put the cup on the saucer, glue it so that the product does not turn over.
  • The stick-barrel is usually wrapped with double-sided tape, and a decorative tape is wound around it. The thinner the tape, the more elegant everything looks. Coarse twine is also used.
  • As a decor for topiary from coffee beans, you can use spices, dried orange slices, star anise (anise, in stars), for a mosaic pattern - white beans.
  • Gypsum or alabaster is usually poured into the base - they quickly harden and hold firmly. If you have a massive top, you can add heavy pebbles to the plaster so that the whole structure is stable and does not turn over.
  • Try to choose beans of the same variety and the same roast. That is, it is better to take not a mixture of Arabica and Robusta, but one thing, and optimally - in a large package, so that the difference in shades is minimal. Arabica is more commonly used, as it has beautiful beans with a pleasant aroma. But Robusta is more round, which is sometimes more practical.
  • Experts recommend gluing grains on topiary in 2 layers. So, under the upper one, the lower one shines through, the composition seems deeper, it becomes more interesting. The first layer is usually glued with the middle strip down, the second, outer, with the strip up.
  • The most beautiful grains are selected for the top. The ones on the bottom are less noticeable, and beans with slight color defects can go there. If you glue in two layers, sort the grains in advance, choosing the best ones for the outer surface, which will be visible.
  • It is possible to glue not only with the plane of the grain, but also with one edge so that they stick out, as it were, perpendicular. This is more complex and painstaking work, but the result is more impressive.
  • Coffee bean topiary can be themed. For example, double, for a couple, or wedding, with the appropriate decor, or Easter, or Christmas. It all depends on your imagination.

Many people are concerned about the question: is it worth varnishing coffee bean topiary. Coated with a glossy sheen and easier to care for. But the varnish clogs all the aroma of the grains. So it's up to you to decide.

Consider a simple decor option that even a schoolboy can handle - the classic Tree of Happiness coffee bean topiary. On average, the work takes up to three hours, if you prepare everything you need in advance.

You will need:

  • Base for the figure. For example, a foam ball. It is sold in art stores, sometimes you can find it in flower or hardware stores.
  • Leg-trunk. As an option - an ordinary strong twig, and even if it is not perfectly even, it is even more interesting. You may need to clean it from the bark.
  • The base is, for example, a cup.
  • Gypsum or alabaster.
  • Fabric tape and double-sided tape for wrapping the legs.
  • Coffee beans.
  • Brown gouache. Last but not least, black. Or ground coffee. What will you cover the base with.
  • Glue. You can PVA, but mounting is better. Hot from a gun is better not to use. Superglue can come in handy, so grab some.

Let's start making topiary from coffee beans:

  1. Make a hole in the base so that the leg enters about a third of the diameter of the ball.
  2. Paint the base and set aside to dry.
  3. Go through the grains, decide how many layers you will glue them.
  4. Starting at the top, apply some glue to the area and secure the grains.

Do not apply glue immediately to the entire ball, and then shower it with grains or roll them. This speeds up the process, but the result looks sloppy.

You can put a bowl of water next to it, lightly wet your finger so that the grain sticks to it, and so transfer it to the base.

  1. When you get to the bottom edge, leave a small area around the stick hole.
  2. Wrap the stick first with tape, then with tape.
  3. Apply glue to the stick and a little - into the hole, insert the leg, let it dry a little.
  4. Add the rest of the grains.
  5. Pour as much water into the base dish as you need. Stir in gypsum or alabaster there, insert the leg of the structure, hold it so that it hardens evenly.
  6. When everything is dry, decorate the alabaster (you can stick the grains).
  7. Glue spices, decor with the help of superlay. Tie decorative ribbons.

It is better to let the product dry for a day, and then hand it over. If any of the grains fall off, fix it with superglue.

This is a much more advanced level of coffee bean topiary, and it's best to tackle this decor once you've had more experience. The whole difficulty is to fix the cup so that its center of gravity does not go beyond the saucer. The basis of the "pouring" grains is usually made of wire, which is glued with instant glue. Sometimes it is wrapped with a cloth, sometimes polyurethane foam is used. There are many options, you should carefully study all the nuances. And it is better to try it for the first time on cheaper dishes, so as not to spoil the composition intended for the composition, and to make sure that everything sticks well.

Do not start making large flying cups with spilled grains. Try with small ones, it will be easier and more accurate.

Conclusions:

  1. You can make a topiary from coffee beans with your own hands in 2-3 hours.
  2. Usually, a round ball or a voluminous heart is chosen for the shape. Any shape you find in a craft store will do.
  3. A flying cup is a rather complicated topiary, but it can also be made at home.
  4. For decoration, you can use ribbons, bows, spices, grains, figurines and much more.
  5. If you do not cover the product with varnish, it will exude a thin pleasant aroma. But lacquered is easier to wipe off dust.

Topiary from coffee beans "Coffee Dreams" is ideal for beginner needlewomen: the technique is simple, materials - a minimum. The barrel is glued and reinforced with pebbles, the ball is made by hand, but you can use a ready-made foam base. Ready decor is used: foamiran roses, coffee grains, beads, cinnamon sticks. Thanks to this, it will take no more than 2 hours to create a small coffee tree: a great idea for a quick handmade gift!

A home-made ball made of synthetic winterizer wrapped with sewing threads was used, however, you can also take a ready-made foam ball.

The total height of the coffee tree - 20 cm, crown diameter with decor - 8 cm. To make a topiary of this size, you only need 1.5-2 hours.

Materials for topiary from coffee beans

Ball making and barrel fixation

Stage 1. The basis of a small topiary - a ball and a trunk. We tamp the synthetic winterizer into the nylon underlay - tightly, but carefully, so as not to tear the fragile material. We carefully wrap the ball with sewing or knitting threads, forming the correct shape. Inside the synthetic winterizer, we fix the trunk on the glue (or prepare a hole to do it later). We continue winding until a dense ball is obtained.

It is advisable to use dark brown threads so that the inevitable gaps between the coffee beans are less noticeable. Also looks spectacular winding twine after thread.

crown formation

Stage 2. Coffee beans. We glue the coffee beans with the core down, tightly to each other. We select whole halves, without defects. On a ball with a diameter of 8 cm, gluing coffee took about 1 hour.

Stage 3. Mounting the barrel. Now is the time to fix the twig in the ball with glue, if you did not do it in the first step. We fix the trunk in a pot on rubble and carefully coat it with glue. An alternative is plaster casting. Detailed article on . We lay decorative pebbles or sisal on top to hide the mount.

Finishing decor

Stage 4. Final decoration of the crown. We glue the decor on the coffee grains: foamiran small roses with satin bows or felt leaves, pasta, cinnamon sticks, beads.

Stage 5. Pot decor. A beautiful clay pot in itself looks harmoniously with a coffee crown. Let's add a few touches: a satin bow or a foamiran rose on a flower pot, sisal with a decorative composition, or just elegant pebbles.
